<li>MCCS requires updates in our Constitution and By-Laws to be in compliance with regulations relating to Private Organizations aboard Camp Pendleton per MCO 5760.4C

<li>A new version with updated language as unanimously approved.</li>

<li>MCCS also requires update to the additional insured on our liability insurance, as follows:

<li>Save the date!  The <strong>Pendleton Sportsman’s Club Beach Day</strong> will be <strong>Sunday, July 17</strong> from 1400 until sunset at Del Mar Beach. This is a family event to include a beach safety seminar, boogie boarding, body surfing, and a surf fishing seminar.  The club will provide hot dogs, buns, condiments, water, and soda.  Side dishes are pot luck.  An email announcement will be sent to all PSC members.</li>

<li>The deadline for tags for the Fort Hunter Liggett elk hunt is June 2.  Don’t miss this world-class hunting opportunity.</li>
<li> The Vandenberg Air Force Base hunt last month was postponed; it is closed to hunting until mid-June.</li>

<strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Archery Committee</span></strong></p>
<p>There  will now be an archery committee meeting and work party on the first Saturday<br />
of every month at the Cristianitos Archery Complex.  The next archery meeting is 4 June.</p>

<p><strong>Mainside Range Update</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Road is repaired, thanks to Massari</li>
<li> Metal frames, trash, old carpet targets being removed thanks to Massari and Skjei</li>
<li> Signage will be installed stating the rules and promoting PSC membership</li>
<li> Targets have been placed, but are in flimsy condition – planning to repair or replace them.</li>
<li> The range will henceforth be named the “Rattlesnake Canyon Range”, since it is more descriptive of its actual location.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Cristianitos Archery Complex (CAC) Update</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>KD Range targets have been replaced, donated by Bear State Archers, planning a letter of thanks</li>
<li>Bowhunter course is approved by Range Ops.  Updated range regs, SOP, and safety class.</li>
<li> Road work by 1CEB is nearly complete, planning a letter of thanks</li>
<li> About half the bowhunter course is currently overgrown, is not in usable condition yet</li>
<li> Shooting stakes and range targets still need to be set, range flag needs to be installed</li>
<li> Discussion of creating a separate archery membership with additional dues in order to use the bowhunter course</li>
<li> Instructions for use of new range to be sent to all archery PSC members, still TBD.</li>

<li>Hunter Safety Courses are offered by the Game Warden’s Office (Building 2648).  This course is required to obtain a hunting license (if you don’t have one) and is valid for all states.  See the club website for details and the current schedule.</li>

<li>The <a href="http://www.ncsapala.com">North Country Shootist Association</a> is a great place to sight-in rifles (out to 890 yards).  It is located 5 miles east of Highway 15 on Interstate 76, on the Pala Indian Reservation. It is open Mondays 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM to non-members. Active duty Marines can shoot for a flat rate of $15 per day. Civilians can shoot for a couple days at $20 per day, and then will be asked to join the club ($50 per year). <li>An upgraded security system is now in place for civilian club members who are not affiliated with Camp Pendleton.  Any civilian Sportsman’s Club members who don’t have a permanent base access credentials should contact <a href="mailto:glencsimmons@univ.us.com?subject=Pendleton%20Sportsman's%20Club%20Inquiry">Glen  Simmons</a> (email or 949-492-4722) to be entered into the Camp Pendleton Security Database so they can gain regular access.  Otherwise, they can only enter the base 3 times in any 45 day period without this security clearance.</li>

<li>A Range Safety Course is presented by <a href="mailto:mark.mckenna@usmc.mil">SSgt  Mark McKenna</a> at the Game Warden’s Office (Building 2648). Please contact him directly at 580-483-3220 for details. <strong>This class is a prerequisite  for use of the archery ranges aboard Camp Pendleton. </strong>He also teaches a beginning archery class once per month for those who have never shot before –same contact info for details.</li>

<li>The <strong>Skeet and Trap Range</strong> is located at Area 25 (Vado Del Rio). It features three ranges &#8211; two are skeet trap ranges for American or International Skeet, and a third five-stand sporting clay range. Guns can be checked out for use on the range, ammo is available for sale, and instruction is available. The hours of operation for the Skeet and Trap Range are Wednesday through Friday 1100-1800 and Saturday/Sunday 1000-1700.  Further information is available at (760)725-4832.</li>

<li>The <strong>Escondido Fish and Game Association </strong>(<a href="http://escondidofishandgame.com/">http://escondidofishandgame.com</a>) hosts a free <a href="http://escondidofishandgame.com/youthevents.html">junior  rifle program</a> several times each year. This is a great event to introduce kids to the shooting sports.  Shooters need not bring anything except themselves and a parent or guardian.  There is also a pistol program which is not advertised.  Contact the <a href="http://escondidofishandgame.com/rangeInfo.html#chairs">POC listed for Jr. Pistol</a> to get on the list. That event runs every other month, alternating with the rifle program, but you must call the POC and get on the list because it fills up.</li>

<li><a href="http://gsp-rescue.org/">CA GSP Rescue</a> hosts <strong><a href="http://gsp-rescue.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5339d093d8d393336ca46c3a9&amp;id=84a8c0e787&amp;e=932d4b9c06">Rattlesnake  Avoidance Classes</a></strong>.  Learn the habits, locations, time, and weather in which rattlesnakes appear, as well as the &#8220;types&#8221; of snakebites, venom and the effects of envenomation.  Teach your dog to recognize the scent, sight and sound of a rattler via a series of scenarios which are increasingly difficult to detect.  The cost is $75 and requires a 50% deposit to reserve a space. There is a requested donation of $10 made payable to GSP Rescue for rechecks for previously trained dogs.  Class size is limited, reserve your spot soon.</li>

Otherwise, they can only enter the base 3 times in any 45 day period without this security clearance.</li>

Contact the POC listed for Jr. Pistol to get on the list.  That event runs every other month, alternating with the rifle program, but you must call the POC and get on the list because it fills up.</li>

<li>CA GSP Rescue hosts Rattlesnake Avoidance Classes.  Learn the habits, locations, time, and weather in which rattlesnakes appear, as well as the &#8220;types&#8221; of snakebites, venom and the effects of envenomation.  Teach your dog to recognize the scent, sight and sound of a rattler via a series of scenarios which are increasingly difficult to detect.  The cost is $75 and requires a 50% deposit to reserve a space. There is a requested donation of $10 made payable to GSP Rescue for rechecks for previously trained dogs.  Class size is limited, reserve your spot soon.</li>

Civilians can shoot for a couple days at $20 per day, and then will be asked to join the club ($50 per year). <li>There is only one hunter education class remaining this year – this weekend (14 November).</li>
<li>The 2010 Rifle Deer Season will end one weekend earlier than planned.  The season will now end on Sunday, November 14 2010.  This is due to reduced deer population from fire and drought, as well as game management via calculation of “hunter effort”, which correlates the amount of game taken per the cumulative number of hunter hours in the field.</li>
<li>The Game Warden&#8217;s Office will be open for Small Game Hunting only on Thursday, November 11 and Friday, November 12.  There will be no Deer or Waterfowl hunting on November 11 and November 12.</li>
<li>Trying to secure an archery-only area, where bowhunters would not have to wear hunter orange.</li>
</ul>

<li>The SOI KD range is open but the roving course is still <span style="text-decoration: underline;">closed</span>.  The Mainside Range is open.</li>
<li>The SOP and cover letter to RSO was ratified.  Meeting with XO is pending, most likely in early December given calendars.</li>
<li>After the SOI range issue is resolved, will plan a meeting with Jennifer Webb (MCCS Liaison) to discuss PSC activities.</li>
<li>Harbin suggested gaining sponsorship from the trap/skeet program (also MCCS) as a shooting sport.</li>

<li> <strong>Discussion of 2010 Pendleton Hunting Season.</strong>  The season has gone well under the circumstances.  We’re fortunate to have a good hunting program aboard Camp Pendleton.</li>
<li> <strong>Numerous bird hunting options</strong> were presented by Harbin.  Pheasant season starts this weekend, as well as the second half of dove season.</li>
<li><strong> </strong><strong>Another VAFB hunt next week</strong>. <a href="mailto:atberzins@aol.com?subject=October%20PSC%20Vandenberg%20Hunt">Berzins</a> will be hunting Vandenberg AFB again on November 17.  Aivars will be happy to show any PSC members around if they would like to join him.  <a href="http://30fss.com/fsvl.html">Vandenberg Lodging</a> can be reached at 805-606-1844.  Please be sure to check space availability and reservations policies in advance.  Civilians are currently not allowed to hunt there.</li>
