Minutes for Jan. 18 Meeting

Call to order.  Meeting opened by President Dennis Loftis at 1832. 

Introduction of Distinguished Guests

-  Mr. Vic Yoder, Head, Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch

Report of the Secretary / Treasurer 

-  Club has 28 paid members.

-  Calls requesting information on the Club and membership are being received on a regular basis as a result of the minimal advertising that has been done to date.

-  Club name change approved, new club name is Pendleton Sportsman’s Club. 

-  Was noted that the Club received no new members through out the last month.

-  Will proceed to open Club bank account using new approved name.

-  Report current balance of $707.07.

Committee Reports:  (Committees to be determined)

  1. a.       Membership Committee. N/A
  2. b.      Programs Committee. N/A
  3. c.       House Committee. N/A
  4. d.      Buildings and Grounds Committee: Still searching for a permanent building.  It has been determined that in order to get a building the Club will first need a sponsor.  MCCS has agreed to serve as Club sponsor. 
  5. e.       Publicity Committee: Discussed advertising in the local newspapers; the Scout, North County Times and Union Tribune all came up.  Also discussed getting a message about the club on the dot matrix signs at the gates to help spread the word about the Club.  Kellee McCann will coordinate club publicity with newspapers and MCCS. 
  6. f.        Game and Hunting Committee. N/A
  7. g.       Fishing Committee. N/A
  8. h.       Special Committee. N/A

Old and unfinished business

  1. -         No new membership dues collected.  For members joining after 1 April dues to be pro-rated at $10.
  2. -         Multiple Club logos were brought to the meeting and the members present reviewed them and voted to accept one design.  The design will be made into Club patches and sold at a later date.  We will initially order 50 patches with an estimated cost of $100.00
  3. -         Club membership cards will be done as inexpensively as possible using a home PC/printer and laminated using an available laminating machine where the Club supplies the material.  A sample membership card will be ready for review at the next monthly meeting.
  4. -         Club projects on base: The requested ideas for Club projects on base have been compiled.  The list will be re-worked and prioritized so that the current sporting seasons will be consider in order to get the Club name out.  Suggestions for projects include using the California Department of Fish and Game free fishing days to promote fishing on the base and host a free fishing day at Lake O’Neill with a fishing derby for kids.  The Club will also have a table at the annual Earth Day celebration held on base.
  5. -         The Club will poll the members and ask for the top five (5) projects the Club members would like to do on the base.  This list will be coordinated with Natural Resources Department, Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch, and MCCS to get the Club working on projects to help the base.
  6. -         Rifle Site-in days will be scheduled for the third Saturday of June, July, and August.
  7. -         The members present approved to spend $450.00 on required liability insurance through Carpenters Insurance.  This insurance will allow the Club to start working on base projects and schedule other events.  The insurance will cover up to 62 members in the Club. 

Guest Speaker, Mr. Vic Yoder Head, Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch

  1. -         Mr. Yoder mentioned that there are still two (2) weeks for Quail and Duck hunting on base. 
  2. -         Mr. Yoder also reminded that the new Game Warden positions for civilians are open for application.  There will be GS-5, 7, 9 and one GS-11 position available. 
  3. -         Mr. Yoder said that he feels that coyote hunting may be made available in the next couple of years.

New Business

  1. -         The Pendleton Sportsman’s Club is now an approved NRA affiliated club.
  2. -         Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club is presenting a NRA Family Shooting Sports Camp and is having a Youth Shooting Sports day on March 13.  A couple club members are going to participate and take notes to hopefully sponsor a similar event through our club in the future.
  3. -         Some fund raising events were mentioned.  A Wine and Cheese and Game tasting party was brought up.  A dog Snake Break training session was brought up and discussed in great detail.  Further investigation to be done to see if such an event would be possible on Camp Pendleton.

            -     Next Club meeting will be on February 8, 2005 in building 25265 at 1830.
