Minutes of Pendleton Sportsman’s Club meeting on March 8, 2005
Call to order. Meeting opened by President Dennis Loftis at 1830.
-Introduction of Distinguished Guests
- Mr. Vic Yoder, Head, Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch
Approved February’s minutes as published.
Report of the Secretary / Treasurer
- Club has 37 members. 36 Regular and one (1) Honorary member.
- - Was noted that the Club received two (2) new members last month.
- - Club Dues as of April 1st will be $10 for the remained of year per the Clubs By-Laws
- Will proceed to open Club bank account using new approved name.
- Report current balance of $857.07.
- Noted that the club owes President Dennis Loftis $70 for the Post Office Box.
- Club also owes President Dennis Loftis $450 for payment of insurance.
- All out going monies will be paid from Clubs bank account to be set up.
Committee Reports: (Committees to be determined)
- a. Membership Committee. N/A
- b. Programs Committee. N/A
- c. House Committee. N/A
- d. Buildings and Grounds Committee: Still searching for a permanent building. MCCS has agreed to serve as Club sponsor. Kellee McCann will construct a letter of request to Mr. Hugh Cooper to request use of the Trailer at the Base Rodeo Grounds.
- e. Publicity Committee: Discussed advertising in the local newspapers; the Scout, North County Times and Union Tribune all were mentioned, faxes and phone calls were made to them but no response. Kellee McCann, Publicity Chairman, will make follow-up calls.
- f. Game and Hunting Committee. N/A
- g. Fishing Committee. N/A

Old and unfinished business
- New membership dues collected. For members joining after 1 April dues to be pro-rated at $10.
- The Club patches were produced incorrectly and will need to be remade (to no cost of the club). We have ordered 100 3-inch patches with a cost of $205.00. Kellee McCann will pay for the patches and the Club will pay Kellee back as the patches are sold.
- - Club membership cards have distributed. Members not present will be receiving their membership cards in the mail. If you have not received you membership card contact Secretary Steve Karns at stevekarns@hotmail.com.
Old and unfinished business (cont.)
- Club projects on base: The requested ideas for Club projects on base have been compiled. Project priorities numbers 1-5 of the Club members that voted are as follows: 1. Build and install signs identifying Hunting / Fishing Areas. 2. Provide assistance to the Base Natural Resources and Department and Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch. 3. Locate, Inventory, and maintain all Base water guzzlers. 4. Build new and maintain current duck blinds in various locations. 5. Create and Maintain lakeshore fishing access areas.
- Rifle Site-in days will be scheduled for Saturday’s in June 18th, July 16th, and August 17th. The Rifle Site-in days will deconflict with the Hunter Safety Courses scheduled.
- A Snake-Break dog-training course was discussed and more information about it was requested. The Club could offer the dog-training course as a community service for dog owners and it could also serve as a fund-raiser. The trainer is booked for the rest of the year but the club will look into having a Snake-Break service sometime next year.
Guest Speaker, Mr. Vic Yoder Head, Resource Enforcement and Compliance Branch
- Mr. Yoder has set up two days of training for Hunters Safety Course on base. The dates are June 25 and August 20, 2005. A copy of the flying is posted on the Clubs website.
New Business
-The Club will have a table at the annual Earth Day celebration held on base on April 22nd to increase awareness and generate publicity for the Club. The idea of the Club holding a raffle of outdoor equipment / sporting goods to serve as a fund-raiser was discussed. The club members have been tasked with selling the raffle tickets at a price of $1 each. The members are also tasked with going to the local shops and requesting donations to be raffled off.
-There is a NRA Family Shooting Sports Camp in Lemon Grove on March 13.
-The Base Skeet and Trap Club is holding a shooting event on base March 13.
-There is a Fishing Tackle and Boat Show at Del Mar Fairgrounds March 16-20.
-Tickets for the North County Friends of the NRA Raffle will be available at the next Club meeting.
-The State Of California Department of Fish and Game will be holding two Free Fishing days this year on are June 11 and September 24. The base does not require the base license to be purchased for fishing on these two dates. The Pendleton Sportsman’s Club would like to put together a Kids Fishing For Fun day on these dates.
-Video Camera’s are available through TAVSC on base and the club can check them out to film events to serve as publicity films to promote the Club.
-A prospective member asked the question why MCCS does not have a rifle range when they have and operate a pistol range on a weekly schedule. None of the members present could give an answer but Club President Dennis Loftis said that he would ask MCCS the question and get back with the prospective member and club.
-Next Club meeting will be on April 12, 2005 in building 25264 at 1830.
